K-12 and community college educators of primarily Native American students who teach classes in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) are encouraged to apply. Applicants should be interested in increasing their knowledge of scientific research and bringing advanced information about optics, electronics, physics, materials science, and engineering to their classrooms.
Additional materials required include a letter of recommendation from the principal of the teacher's institute (confirming the applicant's continued position at the current institute for the coming school year) and a second letter of recommendation from another professional source.
A stipend of $6,000 is provided, and the costs of on-campus housing and travel to and from the university are also covered. Upon successful completion of the program the participant will receive a supply budget of $1500 for his or her classroom.
