On July 18th, the IL Supreme Court ruled in favor of ending money bond with the Pretrial Fairness Act. This historic transformation of our pretrial legal system will reduce pretrial jailing and ensure that people will not be incarcerated simply because they cannot afford a monetary bond. We need your help defending it against attacks from law enforcement and ensure our communities are informed on their rights.
Through the Pretrial Success Act, we are asking the General Assembly to appropriate $15 million to create a community-based network of care through which people awaiting trial can get access to voluntary services and supports. Funds would be distributed statewide with priority given to communities that bore the heaviest burden of the money bond system.
