Feats is a dance and movement arts festival in Edmonton, Alberta, Canada that fosters and showcases Albertan artists. We produce a minimum of three ticketed mainstage events, various site-specific free public events, registered and drop-in classes and workshops and various creation-based professional and youth dance intensives. Everyone who submits this general application will indicate for which festival events they wish to be considered. We are looking for completed or in-progress dance pieces, choreographers and dance instructors/ educators. All Feats Festival performers, companies, choreographers and instructors will be selected from these submissions and contacted during April and May to determine precise roles, time-frames and contracts.
This year’s theme is based on gathering dancers together to look back at our rich history, reflecting on the changes and challenges ahead. This year the festival looks at finding ways to explore our dance in 2017 and beyond. It’s been themed "Unapologetic Dance", looking at the characteristics of Alberta dancers, inspiration, historical and cultural context and not being sorry for it. Looking at what makes Alberta dance unique, inventive and inspirational. Within that we are also looking at the place of Canadiana, because our festival falls within the 150 celebration of Canada. We want to celebrate our canadiana version of Alberta dance, what makes Alberta dancers unique within this context.
Feats welcomes opportunities for partnerships with concurrent dance and arts related events and entertains the possibility for co-production and promotion of dance artists touring through Edmonton during the festival time-frame of June 26 - July 19, 2017.
