Grandparents in Support of the Pine Tree Amendment
LD 489 Language: The people of the State have the right to a clean and healthy environment and to the preservation of the natural, cultural and healthful qualities of the environment. The State may not infringe upon these rights. The State shall conserve, protect and maintain the State’s natural resources, including, but not limited to, its air, water, land and ecosystems for the benefit of all the people, including generations yet to come.
Dear Representatives of the Maine State Legislature,
As grandparents, we have a vested interest in making sure that both our children and our grandchildren will enjoy the same opportunities we have had to live a healthy life amid the beauty that Maine has to offer.
The Pine Tree Amendment would ensure that government will be constitutionally obligated to conserve, protect, and maintain the state’s natural resources for generations to come.
This amendment will require that the state and all its agencies consider the health of the environment as they craft laws and issue permits, so that as Maine develops and grows, we can be assured that Maine’s abundant natural resources will be available to those who follow in our footsteps.
Support for this amendment is a legacy we can give to future generations. We ask that you vote YES on the Pine Tree Amendment to benefit today’s children, grandchildren and those yet to come.
Sincerely,
