Omeka 101: A brief introduction to the Omeka digital library platform

Omeka is an open-source content management system designed specifically for online digital collections. This session will include a brief overview of the different versions of Omeka, a brief demonstration of some basic functionality, a review of strengths and weaknesses, and highlight some examples of projects using Omeka.

Sharon Farnel is a white settler of European descent who lives, works, and studies in Amiskwacîwâskahikan (Beaver Hills House), also known as Edmonton, located in Treaty 6 and Metis Territory. She is currently Head, Metadata Strategies at the University of Alberta Library, and a sessional instructor in the University’s Master of Library & Information Studies program, where she teaches metadata, digital libraries, and knowledge organization. Since 2014, she has been working with community collaborators in the Inuvialuit Settlement Region on community-driven, culturally responsive knowledge organization and resource description for their digital library which is built on the Omeka platform.
