at the GECCo Global Health and Emergency Medicine research summit in Sheffield on July 7th, we have decided to run a continuation of the discussion to give more time for people to ask questions about this highly important topic. The speakers explored the power of research in the setting of humanitarian medicine, as well as the practical and political challenges faced in this area. We will be rejoined by our panelists who will share their personal experience working clinically and conducting research in humanitarian emergencies in a vast array of environments. Our panelists include
Dr Aula Abbara, consultant in Infectious Diseases/General Medicine and infectious diseases/malaria advisor for MSF OCA,
Dr James Smith, lecturer and MSc director in Humanitarian Policy and Practice at UCL with experience working for several medical humanitarian organisations including MSF,
Dr Juan Cervera Serrano, fellow of the European Board of Emergency Medicine, registered as an Emergency Doctor with MSF and UK-Med, and involved with Medical Aid for Palestine and EUSEM's Gobal Health working group, and finally
Ms Enas Tina, Medical Program Officer at Medical Aid for Palestinians, with previous experience working as a national consultant with UNFPA Palestine, a Senior Referral Officer with IntraHealth International, and a coordinator for genetic disease programs. Enas was represented by Yasmin Iraqi at the event, but we are delighted she can join us online for this follow-up.
The panel will be held on Zoom at 19.30 BST on the 27th of August. All attendees welcome, including those who were not present at the initial panel. We will need to cap numbers for the Zoom call, therefore we will operate a first come first-served approach (except priority to those who attended the face to face meeting) and the link will be shared prior to the event. We will try to inform those who have been too late to sign up, as soon as we can.
