Girls Rock School NI Rock Camp is a week long camp running from Monday 19th August - Friday 23rd August 2019 at the Oh Yeah Music Centre in Belfast. It provides girls aged 11-16 with the opportunity to make friends, attend workshops and learn the basics of an instrument, play in a band and write and perform a song live on stage. No musical experience is needed AT ALL! In addition, there will be a community relations element to the camp and we will look at the role of identity and how all elements of our society can shape it.

The camp provides an opportunity for young women and girls to develop their musical, creative and performing abilities in an environment that is specifically designed to develop and build their confidence and self-esteem.

On the first day we will help the participants to form a band; campers will be assigned one instrument which they will focus on for the duration of the camp. Over the course of the camp they will take part in workshops (from zine-making to making band t-shirts!) and we will give them tools to develop their skills, work on their song-writing and fine-tune their performance. There will be lunch time performances and Q&A sessions with inspiring female musicians including AMY, Gender Chores and more. The camp ends in a final showcase concert where they will perform with their bands in a live gig at the Oh Yeah Music Centre.

*Attendance at pre-camp and post-camp sessions are mandatory to confirm your place.*

WHO CAN APPLY?
-------------------------------------------------------
We are looking for girls and young women* aged 11-16 years old who want to make music and be part of a band in a supportive and like-minded community of peers. They don’t need ANY musical experience at all, and we are especially keen to encourage girls and young women who have never learnt an instrument before. They may have never touched an instrument, and they don't need to like rock music (we play all sorts of music!). If they want to get involved we want to hear from you!

*GRSNI welcomes applicants who self-identify as female, trans and/or gender non-conforming.

If you have any questions, you can get in touch with GRSNI at girlsrockschoolni@gmail.com. We really look forward to hearing from you!
