PBHA Outstanding Alumni Nominations 2018
Nominate a PBHA alum who you know has shown significant impact in the public service field, has a long-term dedication to an area or neighborhood. This person has further advanced the cause of social justice and carries on the PBHA core values (love and compassion, stewardship, diversity, growth of people and learning, social justice, community building) long after their undergraduate years.

Don Berwick '68 - Long time proponent of single-payer care health care who has worked to ensure everyone has access to healthcare on a national level

Richard Buery '92 - Former Deputy Mayor of New York City; Oversaw Pre-K for All program rollout; Strong proponent for out of school programs for children in public school to improve outcomes for young people in disadvantaged communities

Rosa Brooks '91 - National human rights lawyer and columnist for the Los Angeles Times

Katya Fels-Smyth '93 - Founded On the Rise through her STRIDE postgraduate fellowship and later founded Full Frame Initiative; Has worked throughout her career to uplift women experiencing homelessness

Steven Hawkins '84 - International Human rights lawyer and Executive Director of Amnesty International

John King '96 - Former United States Secretary of Education; Former Commissioner of Education for the state of New York; Managing Director for Uncommon Schools and Co-founder of Roxbury Prep High School

Farah Stockman '96 - Pulitzer Prize winning journalist for the New York Times and formerly for the Boston Globe; Founded of the Jitegemee School to educate and empower children following her STRIDE postgraduate fellowship

Aaron Tanaka '04 - Co-Founder and Director of the Boston Workers Alliance

Maria Salas Mendoza '90 - District Court Judge for the 120th Judicial District Court, in El Paso, TX; Former officer of the El Paso Bar Association; Board member for the Judicial Section Council for the State Bar of Texas, and the Texas Women Lawyers
