Disrupt. Heal. Lead. - Decolonizing Christianity Canada 2020 Retreat
Decolonizing Christianity Canada (DCC) is a grassroots movement on the northern part of Turtle Island (a.k.a. Canada) that creates space for Indigenous, Black and POC (IBPOC) persons to decolonize their faith, heal from internalized oppression and explore new ways of belonging to a community of faith.
Our community has met online and in-person (regional gatherings) over the last year. We are excited to host our first retreat so we can spend quality face-to-face time affirming, building up and learning from each other.
We are inviting you to complete this application form, as it will help us with our intention to adequately prepare for each person present and curate a retreat space that is curious, respectful of differences and able to hold tensions.
:: RETREAT DETAILS::
The DCC retreat is a POC-exclusive, queer/trans-inclusive, healing and celebratory space that will offer a series of practical, and interactive workshops as well as healing practices with IBPOC teachers and facilitators that hold a diversity of wisdom and lineages. Throughout the process of our time together we will work in community to tackle some of the difficult issues of trauma, racism, privilege and oppression using an embodied storytelling framework.
DISRUPT. HEAL. LEAD. will specifically seek to create abundant space for folks to relish in the spiritual, emotional, physical, and intellectual spaces of ease, pleasure, and joy on our road to liberation! There will be ample space in the retreat schedule for rest and to engage in self and community care and healing practices like group acupuncture and mindful movement.

Who should apply?
Any IBPOC identifying person who has an openness, capacity and willingness to participate in a non-traditional retreat space: one that deconstructs western and colonial frameworks, that intentionally de-centers dominant paradigms and works towards centering POC, trans and queer POC, and holds tension for a variety of theological expressions.
Note: We want to acknowledge and honour the work of Mystic Soul, an organizing group in the United States that has greatly shaped the way that we as a group name the work we are doing, hold space and create space for new things to bloom and flourish.
What are your gender pronouns (how are you addressed personally)?
