2017-2018 AVID Application for Incoming Students
AVID is a class offered to students who would like to prepare for four-year universities. The curriculum features writing, inquiry, collaboration, reading, note-taking, study skills, and college/career/motivational activities. Students MUST commit to keeping a binder and taking notes in subject-area classes on a daily basis and to reviewing those notes every night for homework. Other requirements include: satisfactory, citizenship, good attendance, and B-C academic average.

All students who apply will be considered for AVID. Students will be selected on established eligibility criteria to include grades, assessment scores, teacher recommendations, and their AVID application.

• Grades
• 2.5 – 3.5 Weighted Cumulative GPA
• Citizenship
• Attendance
• College potential with support
• Student desire and determination
• First in family to attend college
• Historically underrepresented in 4-year colleges
• Economically disadvantaged
• Other special circumstances

**While all of the criteria are considered for acceptance into the program, no single criteria will necessarily eliminate a student from consideration. Students participating in exceptional student education, gifted and talented programs, and ELL will be considered for AVID based on the criteria listed above. Currently, there are a number of students from these groups successfully participating in the AVID program. AVID is offered as an elective class scheduled during the regular school day. Students are accepted into the AVID program through an application process.**
