Whitewater Rafting Participants,
Troop 291 is going on a rafting, biking, and hiking trip to the Ohiopyle State Park in Pennsylvania on August 10-12th. There are options for ALL scouts, regardless of age.
What: The best adventure of your summer could be whitewater rafting on the Lower Youghiogheny
When: Friday 8/10/18, 5pm depart from Fairhaven to Sunday 8/12/18 return mid-afternoon. Please try and eat an early dinner (or pack a dinner) before arriving at Fairhaven. (THAT MEANS ARRIVE BEFORE 5PM)

- $115 for Lower Yough including lunch in rafting package (12 years and up)
- $80 for Middle Yough (under 12)
- $185 for Upper Yough including lunch in rafting package (16 years and up)
includes the rafting fee, food, and campsite fees. Scouts will need money for a Sunday lunch stop coming back. Since this is a 3.5 to 4 hour drive (depending on traffic), each scout should contributing gas money to their driver.
Required: The Laurel Highlands permission slip. Different forms depending on your rafting option.

You can extend your stay and do the following for an additional cost:
Biking, Hiking, natural water slide, Falling Waters, George Washington Fort, etc. on Monday
We will have a planning meeting on Wed, 8/1 at 7:30 at Fairhaven, 12801 Darnestown Rd, Gaithersburg, MD 20878. This will be a mandatory meeting for all. Patrols, Patrol Leaders, Grubmasters, Patrol Q's, and menus will be determined. Payment is due by Sunday, July 15th and should be turned into Jung Lawrence by dropping off or mailing to:

There are 3 rafting options available. All are fully guided.
Lower Yough: Must be 12 or older to choose this option. Enjoy the beauty and sheer excitement of the Lower Yough River. The seven and a half miles of Class III and IV rapids will challenge and excite, but not intimidate even the novice rafter. The highly trained and professional staff will guide you through an exciting experience that you will not soon forget. This part of the Youghiogheny provides a great rafting experience. All tours include transportation to and from the river, all the equipment necessary for the day, and a riverside deli-style lunch. See

Middle Yough: Recommended for all scouts under 12. The calm and scenic Middle Yough’s Class I and II rapids are a great introduction to whitewater rafting. By paddling the gentle waters of this nine-mile section of river, you will enjoy the unending beauty and wildlife of the Laurel Highlands. The rafts will seat from three to six rafters comfortably. All tours include transportation from the check-in area, all the equipment necessary for the day, and a riverside deli-style lunch. We have reserved space for 53 total. You will not be signed up for the trip until you turn in your full payment and the Waiver and Release of Liability form from Laurel Highlands River Tours. Any adult or scout attending will need to have their health insurance card and their current BSA Health and Medical Record on file with the Troop.
