2025 Canadian Animation Industry Employment Survey Intent
My name is Alex York. I am a storyboard artist in the animation industry and a teacher in Okanagan College's animation diploma program.
Over the past two years, I have been saddened and alarmed to see a growing number of my animation peers and co-workers out of work for long stretches of time. While it is easy to form vague impressions of how employment stands by talking within our social networks, it is hard to pin down specifics. Hence, this survey.
The intentions of this survey are to, as best as possible, put some numbers on the current state of employment in the animation industry of Canada. It is no secret that the streaming bubble has burst and there are many fewer active productions in this industry than even a few years ago.
My intention and hope is with enough engagement the results of this survey will give more people within the animation community of Canada a clearer picture of where employment in our industry stands.
Please only fill out this survey if you have worked professionally in the Canadian animation industry.
Please share this with as many of your co-workers and animation peers as possible. Many thanks for your input, and may better times lie ahead.
The original run of the survey was between January 22 and February 8, 2025. I am leaving it open for additional input (i.e. if you already filled it out, please don't touch it!), and will close it fully at the end of February 2025.
ALL SURVEY RESPONSES DUE BY: FEBRUARY 28, 2025
