This petition requests that West Berkshire Council debates and discusses the introduction of 20MPH Speed Limits around West Berkshire, specifically so that the Elected Members of the Council can decide what consultation should look like prior to proposals, what the actual consultation should involve (residents, businesses and emergency services) plus what role the Council should play in discussing the results of consultations and whether the Council should vote on amendments / implementation in each area.
The additional questions are asked simply to give Councillors a flavour of public opinion on how the Council are currently seeking to make these changes, and are not connected to the primary goal of this petition stated above.
West Berkshire Council have began the process of rolling out 20mph speed limits on many roads in West Berkshire, with almost all residential roads in Thatcham being included in a blanket introduction of 20mph speed limits announced 15/10/2025.
Alongside the Council Consultation relating to the roads in Thatcham - like most Council consultations, they are very focused on ensuring that the proposed changes are implemented and are typically just a check box activity - I want to know whether you support these changes or oppose them. Should they be introduced across all residential streets OR should they be decided on a street by street basis where need dictates them?
Let me know your thoughts so that we can present a true reflection of opinions to West Berkshire Council on this matter.
The important thing is that we reach enough signatures to get the topic properly debated at the Council - Why do the Lib Dems try to sneak everything through with minimum consultation and no debate?
DATA POLICY
As per all petitions and surveys carried out by Richard Garvie, we use Google Forms so that the data is securely held and not shared with third parties. Petitions handed in to West Berkshire Council must verify that signatures are genuine. To do this, we ask for contact information which is held until a petition is accepted, then all data is destroyed. When we hand a petition or survey to the Council, we withhold the contact information and will only contact you if the Council provide us with a list of people they wish to verify are real. To this date, this has never happened but we must have the option available just in case. We also don't allow duplicate email addresses or mobile numbers to ensure that people are only signing once per person.
This petition / survey is not affiliated with any political party or any political candidate. We deliberately use these forms as a way to allow residents to have their say without data being harvested by political parties using software such as MAILChimp (any petition ran on mailchimp is simply a data harvesting excercise - the clue is in the name - MAIL Chimp).
Finally, if you are one of the thousands who have had your say on Bin Collections or recent Devolution proposals, you will know that we haven't sent you as much as a confirmation email. This is because like you, we hate getting any kind of follow up email! As such, the only updates that we provide will be posted on your local social media groups only. Please keep an eye on them for further updates and information on how you can participate in further debate on this issue.
