Master Plan Participants
A critical role of the Planning Board is to work with residents, experts and other members of Town government to respond to the ever changing environment around us and to ensure the long term viability of our community. The Master Plan will address land use; housing; economic development; natural resources; cultural and historic resources; open space and recreation; community services and facilities; sustainability; diversity, equity and inclusion; transportation, circulation and accessibility.

The Master Plan Steering Committee will direct the preparation of a new comprehensive Master Plan for the Town. The last Master Plan was completed in 2002. Mass General Law 41-81D requires that such a plan include text, maps, illustrations or other forms of communication, designed to provide a basis for decision making regarding the long-term physical development of the municipality.

The Planning Board will be appointing the Master Plan Steering Committee to guide the planning process. The Steering Committee will work with the Town’s Office of Community Development, a Master Planning consulting firm, town committees, and most importantly, a broad cross-section of members of our community to build consensus for how the community should evolve in the future.

The following is a summary list of types of tasks this committee will be involved with:
- Reviewing consultant proposals, selecting and interviewing finalists
- Making recommendation to Town Manager to engage consultant
- Guiding work of the consultant and helping to engage and facilitate community input

Time Commitment: We estimate that the committee with meet 2 times per month. The project duration will be about 1.5 years. There may be other work outside of meeting times.

The Master Planning Steering Committee will be comprised of 8-12 community members.
