The layout editor is responsible for the overall appearance of the Chimes print edition as well as our photo content. The layout editor is also a member of the Editorial Board (along with the editor-in-chief, managing editor and multimedia editor), which makes decisions about the paper as a whole.
The time commitment for layout editor is roughly 10-12 hours a week, mostly on Wednesday nights. The layout editor will receive a stipend of $550 per semester.
Duties include:- recruiting, managing and giving assignments to photographers- laying out photo essay and other pages as needed- approving pages on layout night- helping section editors use InDesign and improve the design of their pages- meeting semi-regularly with the Editorial Board
The layout editor is hired for a full academic year. Exceptions for off-campus interims, semesters abroad or graduating early are sometimes granted by Chimes leadership.
Note: if you wish to apply to be a section editor, multimedia editor or head copy editor, you need to fill out those applications separately (though you may reuse answers and work samples).
