NARA is seeking teachers and administrators to participate in three confidential virtual facilitated discussions during the month of May 2019 with 6-10 people in each group, for a total of 18-30 individuals. Two discussions will be focused on teachers, and one will be comprised of administrators. Our goal is to include people who provide many viewpoints on the topic of mentoring. Their input and feedback will be used to design the mentor training program to be flexible in several respects: differentiating between the needs of a wide variety of teachers, and adaptable to the existing policies, infrastructures, and available resources of the numerous school districts in Minnesota. To help create an inclusive and diverse group of participants for the facilitated discussions, NARA is seeking to include individuals from the following groups:
- Teachers who have been a mentor - Teachers who have not been a mentor - Teachers who have received mentoring - Teachers who have not received mentoring - School Administrators (site and district level) - Teachers with a variety of area specializations (elementary, secondary, special education, ESL) - Teachers of color and American Indian teachers - Teachers who work with different student populations (size and demographic make-up) - Location (metro and greater MN) - Charter schools - Alternative educational settings
In addition, the registration asks voluntary demographic questions on race/ethnicity and LGBTQ identity. All individual responses to the voluntary demographic questions will be confidential and the data only available to NARA staff for the purposes of creating the facilitated discussion groups. Any demographic data shared with PELSB will be at de-identified and aggregate level only for the purposes of reporting the diversity of the applicant pool.
