Mayor Thomson issues City of Bloomington proclamations throughout the year to recognize individuals and organizations. Proclamations designate a specific day of recognition, but they are valid only for the year they are signed. The same day is not automatically reserved the following year; a new proclamation would need to be signed for that to happen.
Key Points:
- Proclamations are valid for one year and do not grant exclusive rights to the designated day. Multiple causes can be recognized on the same day.
- The Mayor's issuance of a proclamation does not constitute an endorsement and cannot be used to solicit funds or donations.
How to Request a Proclamation:
- Proclamation requests should be submitted to the Office of the Mayor no less than three weeks before the needed date.
- You may submit your own text for the proclamation or request that the Mayor’s staff draft the text. If you are requesting City Staff to write the proclamation, please provide detailed information about the person, organization, or event to be recognized.
- Once the text is finalized, a draft will be submitted to you for review.
- The final proclamation will be printed with the City of Bloomington seal and signed by Mayor Thomson.
Presentation:
- The Mayor or a member of the Mayor's staff may present the proclamation if they are available. If you want the Mayor to present it personally, please indicate that on the form below.
Pickup Information:
- Signed proclamations can be picked up at the Office of the Mayor between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
