Livonia Public Schools, in an effort to ensure the safety and security of its students, is continuing our safety procedure for field trip drivers, chaperones, and volunteers (PALS, Motor Moms, ELVs, etc.)
It is necessary for all parents/guardians who will be chaperoning field trips or volunteering in a classroom to provide information for a criminal conviction/background check. All Chaperones and Volunteers must be 18 years old or older. This information will be sent to the Board of Education office and checked through the ICHAT (Internet Criminal History Access Tool) data base. It is only the Office of the Administrator of Public Safety that is authorized to access the ICHAT database on behalf of the school district. Your child's school will be able to access a list of volunteers that are eligible to act as chaperones and volunteers for that school. Except where disclosure is required by law, the list of approved chaperones and volunteers will be shared only with staff on a "need to know" basis and will be kept only for the current school year.
If you have more than one child in the district, a single ICHAT request is sufficient.
Parents may elect not to be screened. Please note that if you are not screened you will not be able to chaperone or drive any children other than your own on field trips.
If you have any questions, please contact Mr. Mike Reilly, Administrator of Public Safety, at 734-744-2583 or
mreilly@livoniapublicschools.org.
Thank you for your continued support of our children and school community!
