Planet Leith

You are free to interpret this however suits you - maybe you want to do something around climate change 'from litter to glitter' or create your own vision of what 'Planet Leith' looks like, or perhaps you would like to explore space and where Planet Leith would sit in the universe! We can't wait to see what you come up with!

The Pageant route for 2024 has still to be confirmed, but we expect it to be the same as last year, beginning at Lochend Park, and travelling down Lochend Road to Vanburgh Place, along Duke Street, down Duncan Place, Johns Place, around to Links Gardens and on to the Links.

Taking on board feedback from last year, the pageant will begin at the slightly later time of 10.30am. All groups should aim to arrive between 10am and 10.20am so we can be organised and ready to leave at 10.30am sharp.
We encourage all groups taking part in the pageant to dress up and to decorate cargo bikes, trailers, buggies etc.

The award for best-dressed entry returns in 2024 & will be announced at Gala Day, so get creative!

Stewarding

While Leith Festival recruits volunteers to accompany the pageant each year, this year we are also asking each group to provide a named steward. This is a person who will accompany the group and help to ensure that they keep within the area of road assigned to the pageant, and generally keep an eye on whether a gap opens in front of or behind the group, and notify a Leith Festival volunteer who can then contact the lead group to adjust their pace accordingly. 

We recommend the named steward is someone who will not be leading or participating in activities during the pageant (e.g. if you are a band the steward should not be someone playing an instrument, or if you are a dance group the steward should not be performing/directing the dancers). We ask that the named Steward be available for a briefing in the week before Gala day.

This will only be used to contact them about the pageant steward briefing. All other enquiries/arrangements will be done through the lead contact named above. If you do not know who your named steward will be yet, please state ‘To be confirmed’. We will contact the lead contact nearer the time to ask who this will be.

It is great to have a mixture of organisations, groups and individuals join the pageant each year. without your participation, it would not be possible to run this activity! We will be in touch soon to confirm details of the pageant route and timings.
