George Mason University Recycling Policy Petition
We, the students of George Mason University, hereby petition our administration and facilities management to update our outdated Recycling Policy. We would like to see 50% waste diversion from landfills and incinerators by 2020 and zero-waste by 2050. Our thriving institution has the means to implement a zero-waste policy competitive with our peer institutions. We believe that doing nothing to improve our current performance in terms of waste production does not align with Mason’s sustainability goals and environmental commitments. A Zero Waste Policy will help George Mason meet the Climate Action plan recommendations to develop waste minimization and recycling strategies, and meet the goal of 80% reduction of greenhouse gas emissions by 2050.
I hereby petition George Mason University to institute an up-to-date waste and recycling policy immediately, with the long-term goal of implementing a zero-waste policy here on campus.
