This workshop provides teachers with strategies for creating amazing history projects and implementing National History Day curriculum in your classroom!

National History Day is the nation's leading educational program for history education in the schools and engages more than half a million students across the country each year. Students research history topics of their choice related to an annual theme and create exhibits, documentaries, performances, and papers, which they may then enter in competitions at the district, state, and national levels. The program will show teachers how to use the NHD toolkit to do primary source exploration in the classroom, and walk them through participating in competitions if they so choose.

With generous support from Mass Humanities and the MHD Frederick Douglass Bicentennial Celebration, we will be offering participants a $250 stipend and 45 PDPs upon completion of this workshop. The workshop will take place on Monday July 30 and Tuesday July 31st at the Mass Historical Society, with an optional 1-day follow-up session in the fall for anyone who wants additional mentorship (Date TBA). Teachers will also be required to judge at one of the five upcoming 2019 Mass History Day competitions, which will take place in March and April next year.

In order to take part in this workshop, you must be currently working as a Grade 6-12 educator . If you have any questions, please contact us at or 617-646-0588.
