2021 saw a step change in international collaboration to stop advertising fuelling the climate emergency. Around 150,000 people have already participated in the European Citizens Initiative (
https://banfossilfuelads.org/) calling for a tobacco-style ban on advertising and sponsorship by fossil fuel companies, airlines and cars. Municipal governments in Amsterdam, Utrecht, Liverpool and Norwich are already implementing these bans at a local level.
In October 2021, a number of grassroots anti-advertising and environmental groups took part in four coordinated days of action calling for an end to advertising and sponsorship. The actions included subvertising, community actions, challenging politicians and calling out the advertising agencies that work with high-carbon clients. You can read more about the European days of action here (

We are starting to plan further actions against fossil advertising in 2022, including an international gathering to bring our movements together. As part of this we are mapping organisations and groups who are currently taking a stand against fossil advertising and sponsorship, or interested in joining. Please share what information you can about your group, and forward this survey to any others in your network.
