Atlantic Pacific Search & Rescue School, 2018
INFORMATION FOR APPLICANTS:
Atlantic Pacific are looking for all types of volunteers to join our third Search & Rescue School in Japan this year. If you think you can help Atlantic Pacific and its mission, please apply. The application is very simple and should take no longer than 10 minutes to complete.
AP has an ambition to grow the current service that operates around Nebama Bay along the Iwate Coastline and then eventually around the whole of Japan. We are looking for volunteers to train with us in search and rescue skills with the potential to then volunteer at one of our lifeboat stations in Japan. Volunteering is not compulsory.
COURSE DETAILS AND REQUIREMENTS:
1. Search & Rescue Training
Friday 19th October - Monday 22nd October (4 days) (9am - 5pm)
Price: £200 (30,000JPY)
2. Search & Rescue Training
Friday 26th October - Monday 29th October (4 days) (9am - 5pm)
Price: £200 (30,000JPY)
Both of these courses will teach the core skills necessary to be a crew member on a lifeboat or rescue ship tender. AP has an agreement with the Royal National Lifeboat Institution (RNLI), which is the UKs national lifeboat service to use their training manual. No previous experience is required, though a demonstrated interest in Atlantic Pacific and its mission is desirable.
Accommodation is not included in the cost of each course, however there are several hotels in the local area that we can recommend for you should join us in October. The Search & Rescue School will take place in Nebama Bay, which is close to Kamaishi City. This was an area that was devastated by the 2011 Tsunami and is currently undergoing regeneration
As the Courses focus on sea-based Search and Rescue (SAR), applicants must be comfortable entering the water. Fitness will not be tested as part of the Courses, but applicants should be able to lift themselves into the boat (this technique can be equated to getting out of a swimming pool without using the steps, and practiced in the same way)
For insurance purposes, we can only accept applications from those who will be over 18 and under 50 years of age on attending the Search and rescue school. If over 50 and interested please contact us directly to discuss your application (
You will need to bring your own wetsuit and wetsuit boots and protective glasses. We will provide your lifejacket and helmet.
The course will be taught in Japanese and English language.
