As many of you will be aware, over the past 12 months there has been much in the news around school funding and how this will change over time.
The current situation for Whitchurch Primary sees a reduction in in our funding in real terms.
In addition we are managing rising costs. Around 75% of our costs are staff costs, so recent increases to national insurance and pension contributions are hugely significant, as well as more general inflationary pressures and new mandatory regulations such as GDPR. Thus, in real terms, the funding challenge to our school is more substantial than the amount above suggests.
As a result, for the first time, we approach a new financial year with our budget in deficit unless we make some changes to how we operate the school.
We are a small, Outstanding school and we are proud of the high quality, diverse learning experience we provide for our pupils, as well as the role we play in the community. As a team of Governors and Staff we are thinking creatively about how we can continue to provide the excellent education and learning environment that all our pupils deserve whilst operating within the constraints of the new budget forecast.
With that in mind, now, more than ever, we need to call on you for support. We will be holding an open forum at the school for parents, carers and the wider community on 18th April at 7pm to share our proposed options of how to proceed. Understanding your preferences, concerns and how we can harness the collective support of the community will enable us to make the best budget decisions for the school.
Please can you confirm your attendance so we can plan logistics accordingly.
