January 27 Workshop with Bill Bauer // Dalcroze New England
Kick off your shoes, free up your voice, move your body, and shed your inhibitions as we explore the many different ways music can come to life! Working in various and sundry styles--including modal jazz, blues, and contemporary classical--we'll feel and express a wide range of qualities in sound and movement.
As we spontaneously invent rhythms, melodies, harmonies, and musical forms in groups large and small, we'll open up fresh creative possibilities. For an organizing principle we'll take up the ever-handy ostinato (riffing, in jazz parlance).
Through perception-action coupling, harnessing its unique power to shape our musical experiences, we'll shed new light such familiar musical elements as pulsation, tempo, and meter. And through improvisation, we'll discover new pathways for exploration, by experimenting with different qualities of beat, measure, and subdivision, and different ways of approaching gesture and phrase shape.
