Youth Organizing for Food Justice

For years, youth groups in the food justice movement have gathered at conferences like Rooted In Community and expressed interest in shared activism and policy change. Since 2011, Live Real has piloted initiatives along those lines (like the Food & Freedom Rides, Farm Bill activism, Bring Healthy Back, and more).

We're reaching out to youth/food organizations across the country to help inform the next phase of our work. As we move forward into this new stage, we hope that the lessons from past experiments and everything we learn from you can help us develop the most effective campaigns to unleash the power of youth transforming food systems and food policy.

Thank you for your time!
Toward justice for all,
the Live Real crew.

    Experience and Energy for Activism/Organizing

For the purposes of this survey, we are focusing on your program's experience and work toward youth organizing. If you want to share more about your own or participants' additional work in this arena, feel free to include that in the blank spaces. NOTE: we define organizing as building power around a specific issue to achieve the change we want. So, for example, we're not talking about distributing free food to people, or training people on how to prepare food. Rather, an organizing campaign might involve community members advocating together to oppose the development of an empty lot that they want to grow their own food on.

It's a bad use of resources. Don't waste everyone's time - do something else!
We're definitely not interested, but if other groups want to do it, that's great.
We might do it --- it depends on a lot of factors. We'd want to hear more.
We're definitely interested, but there may be some obstacles to our participation.
