Abstract:

The Rosario Mining District is a world class historic gold and silver mining district in Sinaloa- Mexico. The Rosario mine is the most prominent historical mine, which operated for 250 yrs. Today it is controlled by Penoles (Fresnillo) and the lack of modern exploration in the mining district has created many opportunities for discovery of attractive world class mineral deposits.

Goldplay Exploration controls 250 sq. of strategic concessions, including recently acquired Advance Resource Stage San Marcial Ag-Zn-Pb- Au Project (“San Marcial”), situated on the western edge of the Sierra Madre geological province at lower elevations in the Rosario Mining District. It hosts a series of important gold and silver prospects and producing mines in a highly prospective geological setting for exploration.

Structurally, the Rosario Mining District has undergone major tectonic extensional events evidenced by extensive regional features, such as the Panuco and Aguas Calientes Graben inside the exploration area. These extensional tectonics are dated Early to Middle Miocene and formed asymmetric regional grabens (pull-apart geological setting) bounded by high angle normal faults, commonly showing prospective exploratory sites for precious and base metals along their edges.
The predominant lithological units in the Rosario Mining District are: - Lower Volcanic Group, consisting of weakly to intermediate propylitically altered andesite rocks, with related hypabyssal intrusions (Quartz Porphyry), - Upper Volcanic Group, represented by hydrothermally altered dacitic tuffs and quartz rhyolite and pyroclastic sequence. Improved understanding of the geological setting, mineralization controls accompanied by geophysics, coupled with several world class discoveries in Mexico (e.g. Pinos Altos) are supporting that both groups can host world class gold and silver deposits.

At San Marcial there is a predominance of The Upper Volcanic group, with the Lower Volcanic group occurring at lower elevations. The known silver-lead-zinc-gold prospects at the San Marcial project are hosted along what appears to be highly weathered wide and continuous hydrothermal breccias in close proximity to northwest trending fault structures. The mineralized zones outcrop on surface creating attractive target for future high-grade open pit development.
