Workshop: Mass-custom housing
A 5-day workshop for developing mass-customised house types. Mass-customised houses are modular, made in factories, and highly efficient to produce, yet can be customised by its inhabitants and localised to the context of the site.
The workshop is organised by the Faculty of Architecture at the Estonian Academy of Arts in collaboration with Harmet Modular Houses, Welement and Creatomus Solutions.
The workshop is aimed both for students and tutors in architecture, design and engineering. Students will be awarded 2 ECTS credits at the successful completion of the workshop.
The introductory presentations cover the main principles of Design for Manufacturing, Logistics and Assembly (DfMLA). During the workshop you will visit factories and look into industrial building systems. You are expected to design and build a digital model and an online house configurator of a mass-customised house type. You will be provided with tools and instructions to utilise a modular timber system for designing your own house type.
The Workshop takes place 16.- 20. March 2020 in Tallinn at the Estonian Academy of Arts.
The workshop is led by Renee Puusepp (PhD) and supported by prefab specialists, engineers and product architects.
