2023-2024 Emory Mathematics Honors Application Form
The application deadline is March 1, 2023. Invitations will be sent by the middle of April.

Please review the requirements for the honors program here:

https://www.math.emory.edu/~dzb/honors.html

In addition to a GPA of at least 3.5, successful candidates typically have very high grades in their 300 and 400 level courses and have finished almost all of the required courses in their major.

Note: it is not possible to participate in the honors program in mathematics if you are pursuing the Math BA degree.

If you are finishing your degree in Spring 2024 or Fall 2024 and would like to be considered for Honors, please fill out this form.

If you have any questions, please email the honors coordinator David Zureick-Brown (david.zureick-brown@math.emory.edu).

Which honors track would you like to be considered for? (This should be the same as your degree.) The Math BA is not eligible for honors. *
If you have worked or are currently working on a research project with any faculty, please list their names here.
Please list the names of 2-3 faculty members who you might be interested in having as an advisor for your honors thesis. (It is ok if you have not discussed this with them yet, and you can change your mind later; this is just to help us get a sense your interests. Faculty in other departments are allowed, as long as the would would still have a mathematical component.) *
As part of honors, you will be required to take a graduate course (i.e., a course numbered 500 or above) during Fall 2023 (unless you have already taken one). Which graduate course are you tentatively interested in taking? (You will be able to change your mind later.) Please indicate the department and course number (for example: Math 511). If you have already taken a graduate course, please list it instead, and indicate the year and semester. Students typically take one of Math 511, 515, 521, or 535, but other options are allowed. *
If admitted, you must enroll in Math 495h during the semester that you graduate.  This is the "honors writing course",  which will satisfy one of your continued writing requirements. You are allowed to register for 1, 2, 3, or 4 credits, and you will be able to change your mind later. *
Finally: the graduate course and the honors thesis research typically take 10-15 hours each, and it is not reasonable to pursue honors if there is not room in your schedule. Please list below the courses you plan to take during your final two semesters (e.g. Fall 2023 and Spring 2024). (Again, it is OK if this is tentative. Please list non-major courses too.) Please indicate the semester, the department, and the course number. *
