2017 Volunteer Tutor Application
International House staff thank you for your interest in adult literacy. Our volunteers help men and women who come to Charlotte from all over the world develop English and prepare for the Citizenship interview. When you give your time as a volunteer, you help immigrants and refugees acclimate into our community. And, you join other volunteers who share your desire to have a fun volunteer job.

We have two tutoring roles in our Education program. The full job descriptions are posted on our website: www.ihclt.org. Using this form you can select the role(s) to which are you applying and indicate your availability.

(1) English Tutor

English Tutoring cycles are twelve weeks. Each instruction session lasts two hours. A volunteer English Tutoring Program (ETP) Coordinator is present as a resource.
Volunteers select from the following time slots on Thursdays: 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. and/or 6 pm. - 8 p.m.

The tutoring cycles are:

• Thursdays, January 26 – April 13
• Thursdays, May 18 - August 3
• Thursdays, September 14 - December 7

(2) Citizenship Tutor

Citizenship Tutoring cycles are eight weeks. Volunteers tutor on American civics vocabulary and concepts of the U.S. citizenship test for naturalization. A staff member and volunteer teaching assistant is present as a resource.
The tutoring sessions are on Sundays from 1:30 – 3 p.m.

The tutoring cycles are:

• Sundays, January 22 – March 5
• Sundays, May 14 - July 16 (No class 5/28 or 7/2)
• Sundays, September 17 - November 5
