Coalition to Save SC Restaurants and Venues

To: The Honorable Thomas Alexander, The Honorable Murrell Smith, and Governor Henry McMaster

“In light of recent comments made by members of the General Assembly and by Governor McMaster regarding S.915’s potential resurrection on June 5th, we request that, if Sine Die is amended to include S.915, you also support amending to include S. 533 as well.

As you may know, small businesses across the state are being forced to shutter their doors and close their businesses due to exorbitant insurance rates caused by the State’s joint and several liability laws. In the wake of the government-imposed Covid lockdowns, small businesses, especially restaurants and music venues, have endured enough, and the General Assembly should focus on reducing regulations on these businesses who serve as the economic backbone of South Carolina.

Grassroots have overwhelmingly made clear their issues with S.915 and have equally made clear their support for S.533. In the past two years of this session, the General Assembly has overwhelmingly prioritized helping big corporations through tax handouts and exemptions. We must prioritize the livelihood of our small businesses on June 5th, and make sure businesses receive fair treatment to flourish, provide jobs for families across our state, and impact our economy as they have for years.
