SD Clean Slate Clinic Volunteer Registration - December 7, 2019 - South Metro Career Center
Hi Friends of the San Diego Clean Slate Clinic,

It's the LAST Clinic of the Year! We could not have gotten through this year without each and everyone of you! We want to take this moment to send a huge THANK YOU to all of the volunteers who have taken their time over the past year to help individuals whose lives continue to be affected by the criminal justice system, even after they have completed their sentences, after they have served their time, after they have paid monies owed - individuals who just want to live their life to the fullest, but are often met with barrier after barrier because of their records. So THANK YOU from the Clinic participants and from the Clinic organizers! WE APPRECIATE YOU! Also a special shout out to some of our key partners who have helped to make this another successful year - the South Metro Career Center, the Public Defender's Office, the San Diego Paralegal Association, and North County Works - you, your staff and your volunteers are deeply appreciated!

We'll be back at the South Metro Career Center, located at 4389 Imperial Avenue, San Diego, CA 92113. As always, we're expecting a large number of participants and will need lots of volunteers to assist them!

IMPORTANT NOTES FOR DECEMBER CLINIC:
1) We will not be intaking any new participants so that we can focus on finishing up as many 2019 participants as possible.

2) There will be important changes coming to the Clinic in 2020. Due to a lack of supporting resources, we will be implementing a reduction of services. We will do our best to not only maintain, but also continue to improve upon the volunteer experience, but the reduction in services will likely also create a reduction in volunteer opportunities.

3) Stay tuned for additional updates to be announced in early 2020. Please continue to check our website as we work to implement the updates.

VOLUNTEER TRAINING
Volunteer training will be held from 9-10 AM the morning of the clinic. We are always fine-tuning the Clinic so there will be some changes to clinic processes and ALL NEW AND RETURNING volunteers are asked to attend the training in order to volunteer that day.  We appreciate your patience and feedback as we continue to refine and improve the clinic for both volunteers and participants.

WHAT TO BRING
Please bring a laptop (preferably charged as there are limited electrical outlets). Volunteers are also encouraged to bring snacks and water.   We will provide bottled water and some snacks.  We occasionally get food donations, but some volunteers prefer to bring their own snacks.

WHAT TO WEAR
Dress code is business casual.  Jeans, casual tops & sweatshirts are OK. Please dress comfortably and bring a sweater as the room tends to get chilly.

COMMUNITY LIVESCAN SERVICES
The Clinic now offers Livescan (electronic fingerprinting) services on site at the Clinic.  As many of you know, one of the major barriers to receiving post-conviction relief is getting access to your own criminal record.  Thanks to a grant from Partners for Progress, the Clinic is now able to help remove this barrier by providing Livescan services on site and at a reduced cost.  Please check out our website sd-csc.org/livescan or the 2019 Clinic flyer for more information.

Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns.

Take care,

Keiara & Adam
