Dear Applicant:

Thank you for your interest in being part of the Aston Township Fire Department. Our success as a community service organization depends on knowledgeable, educated and dependable people who are willing to give time and effort for a common goal. We are pleased to see your interest in being part of our family.

The process of becoming part of the Aston Township Fire Department is straightforward. Please complete the attached application in its entirety. Include all names, telephone numbers, and addresses, etc. A criminal background check, PA child abuse clearance, or if you have not been a resident of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania for 10 years you will need to get your fingerprints and background check with PA State Police to be compliant with the Child Protected Services Act. You will also need to provide a full drivers history. All clearances can be completed by you online at the below noted websites, except the fingerprints and background check from the PA State Police. Your background checks and driver history need to be handed in with the application with copies of the Aston Township Fire Department EEO Policy. You will finally be contacted by the interview committee for an interview.

As part of Aston Township Fire Department you will have to serve a probationary period, and comply with all the Best Practices, Guidelines, and Policies of the Aston Township Fire Department.

Volunteer Membership Additional Requirements:

If you are under 18 you will need a parent or legal guardian signature on the application and meet with the Chief, Chairperson of the Board or there designee. You will also be required to hand in state certified working papers that you can obtain at your school district administrative office.

Upon acceptance, you will need a physical within 90 day and provide a copy of your driver’s license and record must be submitted if applicable. You will be required to meet with the tactical officer regarding eligibility to clarify active status. This meeting will explain your gear, training, your rookie book, officer responsibility and rules of riding the apparatus.

You will be asked to participate in the regular non-firefighting activities and events. These sessions will serve to introduce you to the fire department’s members and likewise them to you. This introduction is important as a confirmation vote of the general membership is required for membership.

As an active firefighting member you must maintain 15% of fire calls or ems calls and 15% drills. They must attend four (4) company meetings. An active non-firefighting member must attend five (5) of the regular company meetings and 25% of the fund raising activities.
