A shortlist of Anytown-KC philosophies are: • There is no hierarchy of oppression.• Prejudice is learned and can be unlearned.• Diversity is a salad, not a melting pot.• Youth are leaders of today and tomorrow.• Willingness to recognize and honor the intersectionality of the multiple forms of oppression.• Trust the process!
If you think you can “get down” with all of this and have talents and skills to contribute as a volunteer, then we excitedly invite you to submit an application! We encourage all applicants to mark your calendars to attend the first volunteer training on Sunday May 26 from 3:00 - 6:00 pm at Avila University. Selection decisions will be made by the Steering Committee and Co-Directors to fill the available volunteer slots after the first volunteer training. Selected volunteers should plan to attend additional trainings on either Saturday or Sunday the weekends of June 8-9 and June 29-30 from 9:00 am - 5:00 pm at Avila University. Commitment to attend the trainings is important in order for the volunteer staff to form an effective team, to learn the program curriculum, and to prepare for the role of coaching participants.
