Committee information:

Training Team: The training team is a critical component of building PennSID’s intellectual capital. This team will train PennSID members on various aspects of development by presenting at GBMs and bringing in relevant speakers. They also plan and run various events, such as documentary and TED talk screenings. Having a strong background knowledge is key to creating lasting impact.

Communications Team: CommSquad is responsible for building PennSID’s brand. From Facebook to email to the PennSID website, having a strong brand is critical to bringing people to events and gaining credibility. This team will be responsible for managing and maintaining the website, Facebook page, and other channels through which the group communicates within itself and the Penn community, as well as handle the marketing of all PennSID events. If you are interested in blogging only, this is also the team you for you! CommSquad assumes the roles of editing and posting blogs on behalf of members of PennSID onto our website.

Events: The events committee is responsible for organizing our Global Art Benefit in the spring semester and the International Development Conference in the fall semester. The Benefit is a showing of photography pieces submitted by Penn students and faculty depicting various themes in International Development, and a silent auction to raise funds for an international charity organization chosen by the committee. The fall semester conference provides an opportunity for students to learn from and network with experts in the field. It aims to raise awareness and to spark discussion about international development.

Innovation and Impact: Innovation and Impact is our newest committee. This team is responsible for planning events that bridge what we learn about international development to our local Philadelphia community. The committee will continue building partnerships with service organizations in Philadelphia through which PennSID members can get involved in the local community. The committee will also create a directory of international development opportunities and contacts through which SID members can find jobs, internships, and people with similar passions.
