Dear Members of Academia Sinica’s International Community,
The Department of International Affairs (DIA) would like to thank you for being a great part of the international community at Academia Sinica and for taking part in events and lectures held by DIA in the past one year. DIA is honored to continue providing service, facilities and information for you in the future.
As part of the facilities that DIA provides for internationals at Academia Sinica, Chinese classes are available to AS faculty and TIGP students who would like to improve your Chinese language skills. We would like to encourage you to take this great opportunity to register our arranged Chinese courses.
1.
Purpose:
Academia Sinica provides Chinese classes for foreign researchers to improve their Chinese communication skills in daily life.
2.
Qualifications for applying Intensive Chinese class:
a.
Academia Sinica Faculty (who are hired by Academia Sinica), which includes researchers, research assistants and Posdoc.
b.
TIGP students (for Thursday Class only)
The Chinese classes are open to AS faculty and TIGP students only.
You will need to show your Academia Sinica identity card when you hand-in the deposit and every time when attending the class.

For 2019 Autumn Intensive Chinese class schedule:
** Class A: Basic Chinese Class: September 2nd, to December 30th, 2019 Monday 18:30~20:30
** Class B: Intermediate Chinese Class: September 5th, 2019 to January 9th, 2020 Thursday 18:30~20:30 (suggest level: You have learnt Chinese for 1 year; TIGP students are required to complete one Academic year (2 semesters) compulsory Elementary Chinese class before registered Thursday intermediate Chinese class.)
Please make sure you are able to attend every week.

Fees and required documents:
a.
Deposit NT 2,000 for one semester Intensive Chinese class. (refundable only if the requirements are fulfilled)
b.
A scan copy of your post office passbook cover (The Green book cover)
5.
Return Deposit Requirements:
The registration deposit is fully refundable for those attendees who fulfill the following requirements:
1. Attendance of 15 or more weeks during the entire semester
(There are total 18 weeks of classes in one semester)
2. Final grade of C 70-79 or above.

Application period:
For the Autumn Semester Intensive Chinese registration period is from July 15th to August 15th, 2019.

Due to the limited seats, DIA will email to those who registered successfully online after the deadline, people who received the DIA email will need to hand-in deposit and post office passbook cover to TIGP office (No. 60 on the AS map) within one week, otherwise, your registration will be cancelled.
c.
Those who had registered online but did not receive any email from DIA after the deadline will be put in the waiting list. DIA will inform you as soon as there is any slot available.
7.
Important Notes:
Please note if you register the class successfully, you are not allowed to withdraw the class in any situation. The deposit will not be refunded if you withdraw the class.
Students will need to attend the class more than 15 weeks (total 18 weeks) in order to get your deposit return. Any reason for absences will not be accepted.
Sit-in on class is not permitted for the classes
Seats are limited for each class, first come first served.
Course offering will become valid only when there are more than 15 people registered.
The Deposit will be returned if the class(es) is (are) not offered.
As the attendance rate of the intensive Chinese class is getting lower and lower from previous semesters, please make sure that you are able to attend more than 15 weeks for a semester before you register the class.
If you are not willing to provide the scan copy of your passbook cover, please DO NOT register the class(es).
If you missed more than 3 times for last semester, you are not allowed to register the classes for next semester.
Passbook cover is for accountants to check your identity and deposit return.
Students who fulfill the requirements will receive the deposit refund to their post office account within 2 months.
TIGP students are required to complete one Academic year (2 semesters)compulsory Elementary Chinese class before registered Thursday intermediate Chinese class.
If you are TIGP PhD student, you are required to complete the 3 hours compulsory Elementary Chinese class in the morning/afternoon. You are not eligible to enroll Monday intensive Chinese class in the evening.
Participates are required to fill-in the questionnaire and return to TIGP office before the class ends.
If you register the class after the class begins, the classes that you missed will be included in the absent classes. Please do consider about this issue before you register the class.
If you do not agree any of the policy above, please do not register the class.
Spouses are not eligible to apply Chinese courses.
