Waiting List for Honors Placement 2017-2018
I. Honors Language Arts classes are offered at the 6th, 7th, and 8th grade level. Students interested in honors placement were asked during the registration period in January/February to complete the online Honors Request google form. Students are most successful in honors classes when they have higher prerequisite skills. The number of class sections were determined in May off of the following three data points:

• Reading comprehension (SRI lexile level) - Advanced
• Writing (SAGE Writing or Writing Honors Entrance Exam) - Highly Proficient
• Reading literature, reading informational, & language (SAGE Reading or Reading Honors Entrance Exam) - Highly Proficient

SAGE scores were used unless we were unable to access a student’s SAGE score then the Honors Entrance Exam was used in its place.

II. Honors Math classes are offered at the 7th and 8th grade level. Students interested in honors placement were asked during the registration period in January/February to complete the online Honors Request google form. Students are most successful in honors classes when they have higher prerequisite skills. The number of class sections were determined in May off of the following two data points:

The two data points that will be used to determine placement into 7th and 8th grade math
honors placement are the Scholastic Math Inventory (SMI) and the Student Assessment for
Growth and Excellence (SAGE).

• SMI
- For 7th grade honors an advanced score ≥ 1130 on the SMI
- For 8th grade honors an advanced score ≥ 1180 on the SMI
• SAGE math (District End of Year CFA if SAGE is not available)
- For both 7th & 8th grade honors a highly proficient rating (level 4) on SAGE

III. Students requesting honors after May can place their name on a space available waiting list.
