On January 6, a faction of our leaders in office turned their backs on America by inciting armed right-wing militants to attack our Capitol.

This was an attack on all Americans - on our greatest institutions, a symbol of freedom to the rest of the world - our democracy and the freedoms and possibilities it is meant to provide.

As mounting evidence about the planning of this attack, death threats against elected leaders, and violence against public officials reveal, some lawmakers are continuing to spread daily lies to keep their supporters engaged and enraged knowing these lies continue to deteriorate and fracture our democracy.

This is part of a broader attack on an inclusive American democracy - fair districts, the freedom to vote and a working Senate.

So this January 6, exactly one year later, people all across the country are holding candlelight vigils and other events  to say:

The U.S. Senate and President Biden must act to now to preserve our and strengthen our democracy and ensure this attack never happens again.
