Adoption Process: The adoption process includes completing an application, undergoing a reference check, submitting a landlord form (if applicable), participating in a virtual home tour, and signing an adoption contract.

Once your application has been processed and you are approved as an adopter, we will reach out to you regarding the pets that your family qualifies for. It is important to carefully read and fully answer each question in the application. Please inform your references that we will be contacting them first via phone and then through email or text.

Please keep in mind that the animal you are inquiring about may already have a pending adoption or may have already been adopted.

We kindly ask for your patience as it will take approximately 24-48 hours to review your application. You will be contacted via email or phone. If you have not received any information within 48 hours, please feel free to email us at southernpawsva@gmail.com.

Please ensure that all animals in your household are up-to-date on their vaccinations, preventatives, and have been spayed/neutered unless there is a medical reason preventing it. If you have any exotic animals, please ensure they receive an annual wellness check-up from a veterinarian. We do not adopt opposite-sex exotic pets to individuals who already have one. Before reaching out to us, please discuss adoption with your household. Additionally, kindly inform your landlord, current veterinarian, and provide us with two references whom we will contact via phone.

Clear selection
You are required to ensure the animal is spayed or neutered by six months of age if not already done so by SPVAR, once approved for adoption. Please note that we are not responsible for the medical procedures of your newly adopted pet. In the event of any medical reasons preventing the spaying or neutering of your pet, please contact SPVAR promptly. Failure to have your pet fixed by six months of age will result in our right to reclaim the pet. *

Please refrain from including children or pets in the video unless you specifically intend to introduce them. If you have already prepared supplies for the pet you wish to adopt, kindly display them in the video. Should you have any questions, our coordinator will be available to provide assistance when they reach out to you. *
