As a small indie publisher, The Learned Fangirl (thelearnedfangirl.com
) has always been committed to uplifting the voices of writers from marginalized groups.
The COVID-19 outbreak has made times especially difficult for freelance writers. Many have not been paid for outstanding invoices or no longer have work coming in for pay. We want to help in any way we can to support rent, food, utilities, and other needs.
In partnership with our nonprofit fiscal sponsor Independent Arts & Media (artsandmedia.net
), The Learned Fangirl has created the TLF Freelance Emergency Fund to support freelance culture writers who have been negatively impacted by the coronavirus outbreak.
We will issue amounts from $50-$200 to freelance culture writers in the United States impacted by the coronavirus outbreak. Our priority is arts and culture writers who self-identify as being from a marginalized identity (ex. person of color, Indigenous, disabled, LGBTQ). We especially want to help writers from marginalized backgrounds that have:
1) Outstanding invoices that have not been paid, or
2) Have been working on creative projects that now will not likely be published.
At this point, we are focusing on creatives that have completed writing-based projects.
Payments from the TLF Freelance Emergency Fund shall be distributed by The Learned Fangirl’s fiscal sponsor, Independent Arts & Media.
All information provided in the application below shall be kept confidential by The Learned Fangirl and Independent Arts & Media.
