RSVP for Puppet Making: Aug 4 - 14, in Community Garden El Jardin del Paraiso!
This project is led by disability puppetry artist Marina Tsaplina and is commissioned by the leading environmental magazine Orion Magazine for their upcoming December 2021 special issue on Disability/Culture/Ecology. Additional partners include Disability Unite and the 2021 International Puppet Fringe NYC Festival.

The puppet and flower making will take place daily between August 4 - 13, outdoors in a community garden in lower Manhattan. The garden entrance is to the right of 309 East 4th street, between Ave C - D, Manhattan (

Together, we will be creating 100 flowers from silk that will then become part of the body (organs) of the puppet. The flowers we create will be based on those native to the Yaak Valley and the endangered, ancient forest.

On August 15, the puppet will travel to be temporarily installed in this old-growth forest, photographed, and then published and a feature article written on the work. We will also work to build a political campaign to protect and save the old-growth Black Ram forest and continue building diverse partnerships.

**To help ensure that we work in enjoyable, COVID-safe conditions, please fill in your availability (days and times) in this form. The garden will be open during the following times:

Thursday Aug 12:
2 - 8 p.m.

Friday Aug 13:
1 - 8 p.m.

You can come and leave at any time during the days and times listed. To help ensure COVID safety, please sign up for the day(s) you are available to come, or contact Marina at 347 512 2411.

No experience is necessary, and all materials will be provided. All you need to bring is yourself, and your desire to be part of and contribute to this project. This project isn't able to accommodate children at this time. There is limited availability due to COVID safety precautions, space and materials, so your RSVP reserves your space.

Banner Image description:
Against a spottled moss-green and white background are two large fluffy open-petal purple flowers with white-yellow centers. In the center of the banner there is a hand-drawn orange flower, much smaller than the two purple ones, and with small green leaves bursting from the center. In the top right corner it says "in partnership with Orion Magazine" and then "Disability Justice" "Climate Justice" and two other logos say "Disability Unite" and "International Puppet Fringe NYC Festival."
