River of Hope Book Group
Use this form to get information on the upcoming books studies. We need each other as we form our faith and reading and discussing other's thoughts can help us. We will gather once a week (over Zoom) to discuss our readings and discuss any thoughts and questions that may arise. The plan is to gather for our first time on January 27th at 7pm via Zoom. What are we reading? There is a choice of two great books that we will venture into. These books have been chosen for their potential to begin conversations about our faith and how we live it out. You welcome to join into the conversation where ever you are in your faith journey. Pastor Brett will be in contact with you to set up the first meeting and answer any questions you may have.

The End of Religion: Encountering the Subversive Spirituality of Jesus by Bruxy Cavey
This is a book that is helpful for anyone, whereever they are in their faith journey. It is provocative and we look forward to the discussion whether you agree or disagree with what is offered. Below is a quick synopsis, as well as a link to buy the book. (there is also an older version, but this study will be focusing on the new extended edition).

In this expanded edition of the bestselling The End of Religion, Bruxy Cavey asks: Has Christianity missed the point? Was Jesus setting up a new religion or abolishing the entire concept? Have Christians gotten faith in Jesus pretty much right--or all wrong?

Thoroughly revised and updated, The End of Religion now includes five entirely new chapters by the author, a new preface, and updates throughout. Join Bruxy Cavey in a dynamic, breath-taking investigation into what Jesus was all about. Find out how twenty-first-century people can live into the subversive spirituality of Jesus.

Jesus lived a scandalous life. Shouldn't we?

Sticky Faith: Everyday Ideas to Build Lasting Faith in Your Kids by Kara Powell and Chap Clark
As a parent, there is nothing I want to do more than to pass on a vibrant and confident faith onto my children. This book gives great ideas about how we can offer a faith that will stick with our kids for life. While this book is targeted at parents, I would invite anyone who desires to see the next generation's faith grow to join us as we delve into what a Sticky Faith can look like in our homes. If you have kids, want kids, have grandkids or just care about the younger generation this can be an amazing opportunity for us all to grow together. Below is a quick synopsis and a link to purchase the book. (I would recommend a digital or used copy of this book).

Sticky Faith delivers positive and practical ideas to nurture within your kids a living, loving faith that lasts a lifetime.
Research indicates that almost half of high school seniors drift from their faith after graduation.

Struck by this staggering statistic, and recognizing its ramifications, the Fuller Youth Institute (FYI) conducted the "College Transition Project" in an effort to identify the relationships and best practices that can set young people on a trajectory of lifelong faith and service.

This easy-to-read guide presents both a compelling rationale and a powerful strategy to show parents how to actively encourage their children’s spiritual growth so that it will stick with them into adulthood and empower them to develop a living, lasting faith.
