'Netflix bingeing', video gaming, porn addiction, facebook and texting - these things are absorbing the time and attention of human beings at levels beyond any 'past-time' or 'entertainment' ever has - or could. Electric light, especially expressed through screens, challenges our existence as never before.
How do we learn what these things really are?
Are they a tool that serve us - or is it the other way around?
What capacities are they challenging us to develop?
During this conference we will look deeply into these technologies, their nature and power to allure and then turn towards the capacities we can develop to navigate this wholly new terrain.
Capacities like the muscle of appreciation: The power of active interest, wonder and awe before the natural world - and the virtual ones we have created.
Capacities like empathy – a bridge from heart to heart: The power to truly know someone in their humanity, and not use or see someone as an object.
Capacities like awakening to the higher light: The power to see beyond the 'fallen light' of electricity and even the light that streams from the sun, to see the 'glory' that permeates and illumines all of life.
By developing these capacities, rather than feeling captured away from our life, we can feel strengthened for life. Our relationships and health can improve; a deep joy can enter our being. Only this kind of inner, spiritual evolution of the human being will give us the tools we need to freely navigate these new realities.
We will have presentations on the theme, open conversations, group activities and games as well as a ‘Café Night' with open mic.
