Theatre of the Picturebook featuring Roger Mello

Launch the 50th anniversary year of Children's Literature studies at Simmons University with the 2024 Mary Nigel Sweetser Lecture. This year’s lecture is hosted by Ifill College and the Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art, featuring a discussion with award winning children’s book author and illustrator Roger Mello! This event will take place virtually on Thursday, July 25 at 7PM EST with Q&A to follow. Mello will be joined by Cathryn Mercier, Director of Simmons University’s Children’s Literature Department. Attendees will receive the zoom link the day before the event with a reminder email from mendelsohn@simmons.edu.

Roger Mello is an internationally recognized artist. He has written and illustrated over 100 picture books, the latter using his unique style and sense of color to push the boundaries of children’s book illustration. In 2014, he made history by becoming the first illustrator from Latin America to win the Hans Christian Andersen Award. His first exhibition in the United States at the Eric Carle Museum of Picture Book Art (Amherst, MA), Fuzuê! Invention & Imagination in the Art of Roger Mello, is on view from June 16, 2024 - January 5, 2025.
