Talk Selection and Mentoring
After the submission deadline has passed, our editorial team will review all entries and select the final series of accepted talks. Please note that, due to the high number of submissions we receive, we are unable to provide individual feedback on proposals that are not accepted.
Accepted talks will be assigned a mentor from our editorial team to help provide guidance on audience expectations and to give feedback on preliminary drafts. While we provide mentorship to all speakers, we work hard to support first time speakers or those with limited experience. We want you to have a great time presenting to our audience. The more fun you're having, the better the end result will be for everyone!
Critically, our audience is largely industry professionals who work in and around the development of video games. As such, we provide some suggestions on key things to focus on in your submission:
- Place an emphasis on strong takeaways for the audience. What can they learn from your presentation? What value will they derive from listening to your talk? Why is your talk relevant to them?
- Take a moment to explore the range of talks from previous years published on our YouTube channel. Does your talk address an area we have not covered in previous years? Does it compliment existing talks in our library? How is your presentation going to move the conversation forward for our community?
- Focus more on the how and why of your subject. Naturally every studio and company has proprietary knowledge they wish to protect, but sharing good practice and lessons learned is vital for the community to grow.
- If your company specialises in tools and middleware, highlight how your tool works, and give details on what it's doing that will bring value to attendees. Talks that read like marketing pitches for your tool/platform/project will struggle to be selected.
- Don't be afraid to pitch something a little weird, or a little esoteric. Our organisers are also a bit weird, and esoteric, so we can relate 100%!
