Registration for the free Language at the Speed of Sight online book club
This free book club for "Language at the Speed of Sight" will be hosted by the Reading League Wisconsin and Dr. Molly Farry-Thorn. Dr. Farry-Thorn got her PhD from Washington University in St. Louis and is now a postdoctoral researcher working with the book's author, Dr. Mark Seidenberg.
Meetings will be hosted live on Zoom on four Sundays in October and November (10/4, 10/18, 11/1, 11/15) at 3pm Central Time, and last around an hour. We will record the portions of the meetings where Dr. Farry-Thorn is presenting and share those videos on the Reading League Wisconsin YouTube channel. You do not need to register to view those recordings. However, you must register to attend any of the live meetings. Certificates of attendance, if requested, will be sent following each meeting based on Zoom attendance reports.
Generally speaking, each meeting will cover three chapters of the book. The schedule will be posted in the "Language at the Speed of Sight Book Club" Facebook group and at
. However, you will not need to read the entire book to participate in these meetings. We realize people have limited time (and this is a dense book!), so there will be recommended pages to read for each meeting (although you are of course welcome to read more). During each meeting, Dr. Farry-Thorn will present a brief summary of the information in the book - we will assume that you have read the appropriate sections. Most of the meeting time will be devoted to discussion in breakout rooms and answering questions that come from these discussions. There will also be opportunities for discussion and asking questions in the Facebook group.

It will also include a link to a Reader's Guide for the book with chapter summaries, links to cited research, definitions for key terms, supplemental content, and suggested discussion questions/activities.
