BIPOC Student Wellness Day Sign Up
A day of events for Middlebury BIPOC students focused on thriving in spaces historically not made for BIPOC students, navigating imposter syndrome, and finding your voice, your people and belonging. Come to some or all sessions. For each session you attend you'll be entered to win raffle prizes (JBL speaker, Owala water bottles, Vermont Book Shop Gift Card, Taste of India Gift Card)

Participants will receive well-being giveaways, opportunities to interact with Middlebury Counseling and Health & Wellness Education staff during guided break activities, snacks and a catered dinner!

Time: 10:30am-6:00pm
Location: Anderson Freeman Resource Center
Meals: Catered Lunch and Dinner and Snacks Included 
Facilitator:  Dr. Portia Allie-Turco, visiting mental health counselor

Tentative Schedule: 
  • 10:30 - 11:00am - Welcome and opening breakfast
  • 11:00 - 12:30pm - Session 1: Understanding the Impact of Racial Trauma: A Journey Toward Healing by Dr. Portia Allie-Turco
  • 12:30 - 2:00pm - Lunch with Dr. Portia Allie-Turco catered by La Chapina
  • 12:30 - 2:00pm - Wellness Activities: 15 minute massages, sign up available beginning at opening breakfast; Visit from Obi-Wan the therapy dog
  • 2:00 - 3:30pm - Session 2: Thriving not Surviving: Strategies to Promote BIPOC Wellbeing at PWI with Dr. Portia Allie-Turco
  •  3:30 - 5:00pm - Wellness Activites: Forest Bathing Demonstration sponsored by Women of Color
  • 5:00 - 6:00pm - Closing Community Dinner with Dr. Portia Allie-Turco catered by La Chapina
Facilitator Bio: Portia Allie-Turco, PhD., LMHC, NCC, is an assistant professor, program coordinator, and clinic director at the State University of New York, Plattsburgh. She owns Adirondack Mental Health Counseling PLCC, a private practice offering counseling, supervision, and consultation services. Her research and clinical focus is on the treatment of racial, historical, and generational trauma and dismantling oppressive systems using indigenous and somatic healing approaches.
