We're so glad you're interested in cooking for the house this semester! Below you will find descriptions of each position for cook crews. Choose between being a head cook OR an ass cook.
FOR HEAD COOKS (5 hours of work shift and 4 hours of HI each):(You have the option to have a co- or fly solo.)
Head cook responsibilities:- create a menu which includes: vegetables, protein, vegan protein, starches, and possibly a dessert or drink
- attend 2 check-in meetings with food coords
- request ingredients from food coords every week
- delegate tasks to your assistant cooks
We'd like to stress that head cooking is at least as much of a leadership role as it is a cooking expertise role --- don't hesitate to reach out to us (Arely and Amelia) if you want to know more about head cooking. For all meals except brunch, head cooks are required to be in the kitchen cooking 3pm-7pm and serve dinner at 7pm (ideally promptly, but nobody will judge you if you're a bit early or late).
FOR ASS COOKS (3 hours of work shift, from 4pm-7pm)
Ass cook responsibilities:
- help prep, assemble dishes, and to generally see dinner through
Ass cooking is a great way to get more cooking experience or to get to cook with lower stakes. A big perk of being an ass cook is the ability to jump the dinner line for meals you help make! Not to mention the respect you get for making a good meal and the joy you receive from feeding your housemates.
FOR PREP COOK (2 hours of work shift, from 3pm-5pm)
Prep cook responsibilities:
- cut veggies, clean tables, prepare tools
Prep cooks show near the start of the head cook's shift (usually 3:30-4:30) to help with prep (which means, in general, measuring and chopping large quantities of things and whatnot).
