Who should sign up for SBU's Fulbright Application Accelerator?
Rising seniors, Master's students, PhD students, and recent alumni with U.S. citizenship who are interested in applying for a U.S. Student Program Fulbright award in 2025 to go abroad during academic year 2026-27. The Application Accelerator is a no-cost, no-credit, virtual program to help you make your Fulbright application the very best it can be!

Schedule for the Fulbright Application Accelerator

The Fulbright Application Accelerator is designed to help you develop and organize your materials for the Fulbright application through informative sessions, workshopping, individual feedback, and peer review. If at all possible, please plan to attend the virtual sessions synchronously! Although they will be available to review after the fact, the "workshop" element will be lost asynchronously.


GETTING STARTED: PERSONAL ESSAYS, STATEMENT OF GRANT PURPOSE & SHORT ANSWERS

Friday, May 30th: 

  • 9:30am to 11:30am - Session 1: Getting Started, Abstract, Flexibility/Adaptability, Impact of Fulbright Award  (all applicants)

  • 1:00pm to 2:15pm - Session 2a: Study/Research Statements of Grant Purpose, Host Community Engagement, Language Plan, Affiliation Letters/LORs (S/R applicants only)

  • 1:00pm to 2:15pm - Session 2b: ETA Statements of Grant Purpose, Host Community Engagement, Language Plan, LORs (ETA applicants only) 

MATERIALS DEVELOPMENT (PHASE 1)* - *Monday, June 2nd to Wednesday, June 25th:

  • Meet with the Writing Center's Fulbright Fellow!

  • Consult further with the Fellowships Team!

  • Get your references and language evaluations in order!

  • Secure your affiliation letters!

1st ROUND OF PEER REVIEW - Wednesday, June 25th:  Peer Review Drafts Due by 12pm/noon

  • Abstract

  • Language Plan

  • Personal Essay - Flexibility/Adaptability

  • Personal Essay - Impact of Fulbright Award

Friday, June 27th, 9:30am-12:30pm: (exact times to be assigned) - Session 3a: Synchronous Peer Review

Friday, June 27th to Monday, July 7th: Session 3b: Asynchronous Peer Review 

PHASE 1 STAFF DRAFT REVIEW - Thursday, July 10th at 12pm, noon: Phase 1 Draft Submission Due Date


MATERIALS DEVELOPMENT (PHASE 2)* - *Tuesday, July 8th to Friday, July 25th:

  • Meet with the Writing Center's Fulbright Fellow!

  • Consult further with the Fellowships Team!

  • Get your references and language evaluations in order!

  • Secure your affiliation letters!

2nd ROUND OF PEER REVIEW - Monday, July 28th:   Peer Review Drafts Due by 12pm/noon

PHASE 2 STAFF DRAFT REVIEW - Monday, August 11th at 12pm, noon: Phase 2 Draft Submission Due Date


FINISHING UP : REVISE AND FINALIZE

Friday, August 15th, 10:00am-11:30am:  Session 5: Revising and Finalizing Your Application

Monday, August 18th to Friday, August 29th: Required "final review" with the writing center (exclusive appointments!)


CAMPUS DEADLINE - "Lock" for Campus Review

Wednesday, September 3rd: **CAMPUS DEADLINE**  (12pm/noon EST)

  • Through the official Fulbright Application portal

  • ALL MATERIALS (essays, letters, portfolio pieces, FLEs) must be submitted for campus review ("lock" for campus review only, DO NOT submit.)

    • If you are still waiting for your foreign language evaluation(s) or letters of recommendation, still lock in your application and contact External Fellowships.

CAMPUS INTERVIEWS

Weeks of September 15th and September 22nd: Fulbright Interviews


ADDITIONAL FALL DETAILS:

Friday, September 26th:  Applications Returned for Revision 

Monday, October 6th at 9am:  Re-submit Deadline

Tuesday, October 7th, 5pm:  **National Deadline** (submitted by External Fellowships)
