PEIA Local Church Mission and Social Justice Involvement, Partnership and Engagement
The Mission and Social Justice Team of the Presbytery of East Iowa is creating a database/directory of local church mission and social justice involvement, partnership, and engagement. We seek to learn about the many and varied ways our local churches are actively participating in their communities, in our country, and abroad. Further, we hope to learn what organizations or not-for-profits your church is partnering with to help others. Broadly speaking, we are asking you to share with us how your church shares God's love in your community, nationally, and internationally.
This information will be used to connect churches with one another around shared interests and to identify potential partnerships and collaborations among local churches.
Please note: This survey should be completed by the session as a group and with the pastor(s) if there is a pastor. Part of what we hope will occur, is that each church will do a sort of inventory of all the ways you are already ministering and then, the church will begin to imagine how you might increase your mission and social justice ministries. Perhaps the process of completing this survey will help your church both celebrate all that you are already doing and then, inspire your church to take on a new initiative of witnessing to God's love. For this reason, please do not have just one individual complete the form without first fully discussing the survey with the session. This communal response is vital because it will help all voices to be heard. For example, maybe the clerk of session remembers that the church gives annually to a local food pantry. But then, an elder who was involved with Presbyterian Women reminds the clerk that the women sent knitted blankets to children in Guatemala. Then another elder shares how the church has given to the annual school supplies drive, too. Suddenly, the church recalls many more ways they share in mission and giving. This step is important. Again, please do this survey together.
Instructions: All you need to do is complete the form online as it appears below. Your answers will automatically be generated and sent to our team. If you have any questions or problems, please contact Kristin Hutson, Moderator of the MSJT at (319) 431-5701.
If possible, please plan to schedule this discussion with your session in either November or December and to submit your responses no later than January 15, 2020. We hope to then share the database/directory at the January 25, 2020 Stated Meeting of the Presbytery.

Please provide names of partner organizations and website links as this will help build our PEIA directory.
Please list the ways your church participates in and/or supports social justice initiatives within your local community or the State of Iowa.
Here, we are thinking about ministries of welcoming and assisting immigrants/refugees/asylum seekers, addressing issues of poverty, racism, or other forms of marginalization, engaging the issue of gun violence, ministries of support for those impacted by the criminal justice system, and/or any other ministry that seeks to care for the least of these. Local and statewide only.

Please provide names and website links to your partner organizations as this will help build our PEIA directory.
Please list your church's involvement in mission on a national and/or international level.
Here, we are thinking about ongoing mission support to a ministry outside of Iowa, travel/service to a particular mission site outside of Iowa, participating in disaster relief/recovery, financial support of a mission worker, etc. Please be specific and name both the mission project and the mission location (City, State, Country). If available, please provide website links. Beyond Iowa.
Please list your church's involvement in social justice work on a national and/or international level including the names of partner organizations.
Here, we are thinking about your church's participation in addressing issues of social justice on a wider stage than just in Iowa. This could include sponsoring travel trips to participate in border ministry, supporting schools for girls in the Middle East, or participating in a letter campaign to Congress to end human trafficking. Again, please be specific and provide website links if possible.
Is your church willing to share information or be a contact for others looking to serve in similar ways?
